The Carolina Field Owners Association and how it all began.
In the beginning, there was no such thing as the CFOA.
Originally there was a series being put together by a fellow named Jeff Gallatin. Jeff ran (and still runs) his own paintball video production company called, Traumahead Sports. Jeff's goal was to produce a true national champion in tournament paintball. In order to acheive this goal, he wanted to set up different regional series around the country. He would go on to call this project THE TRAUMAHEAD SPORTS CIRCUIT. These series would play seven to eight events. Through these events each region would crown a champion that would advance on to play for the national championship. The region that would be set up first would be the North Carolina / Virginia area that was home to him. Included in the planning stages of this region were such fields as Bunkers PB in Raleigh, NC, Top Guns Paintball in Shallotte, NC, Prime Choice Paintball in Chesapeake, VA, Oak Ridge Outfitters in Goldsboro, NC, Coastal Trailblazers in Jacksonville, NC, Free Fire Zone in Mebane, NC, Top Guns Paintball in Richmond, VA, Paintball Central in Greensboro, NC, ActionTown Sports in Chesapeake, VA, and Ambush Paintball in Lexington, NC. Jeff had gone through all the trouble and footwork necessary to make this project start to roll. After the second organizational meeting, things started to unravel for Jeff. First of all, the field that Jeff called home was Bunkers PB. Bunkers PB was sold to a guy named Chris Contii. Chris and Jeff had a disagreement that left Jeff without his home field which he based himself out of, and also Jeff was dropped from the team that was sponsored by Bunkers, Team Trauma. While Jeff tried to re-settle elsewhere, the person that he had entrusted to help him oversee the series was about to take it away from him. This person was Bambi Bullard. All of a sudden, Jeff is out, Bambi is in charge, there is no more Traumahead Sports Circuit, instead we now have the Atlantic Coast Tounament Series. Jeff, despite everything, still tries to make the Traumahead Sports Circuit work. Around this time there was a serious tug of war between Jeff and Bambi. Jeff is trying to keep his Traumahead project together by keeping the schedule together and moving on from there. At the same time, Bambi is calling and saying that all the scheduled fields are with her. It has gotten to a case of he said, she said, and we didn't know who to beleive. Things became very political. Finally enough was enough, Ambush withdrew from both series altogether. After some private discussions were held, we decided to see what kind of support another series would draw from local teams that had no intentions of playing the ACTS. The response wasn't great, but it was encouraging. We held some preliminary discussions with Randall McCollum of ActionQuest that resulted in Randall's encouragement and his support of the idea of a new series. From there, we made contact with our friendly rivals, QUAKE & AGGRESSIVE BY NATURE. Those guys were interested in seeing what we could put together. Along with representatives of the following fields; Flying Colors, Paintball Point, Paintball X-treme, and Ambush Paintball, a meeting was called, and 9 of us sat down and pieced together a schedule and a rule book. And so the CFOA was born. I would like to point out for the record that no team or field involved with the ACTS in any way, shape, or form was solicited to take part in the CFOA. Also when the dates were set for the first season, they were intentionally set on dates other than those dates that the ACTS had already chosen. So as to not compete directly against Bambi's series. The schedule for our second season was released prior to the ACTS's second schedule. Many have asked and pretty much been given this same story. Thought it would only be appropriate that the truth be availible to anyone looking for it!
